Set in 1929-1930, Cabaret focuses on the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Klub, and follows the relationship between American writer Cliff Bradshaw and English cabaret performer Sally Bowels. The show explores the individual experiences of the average Berlin citizen in the moments before the Nazis rise to power.

The original notes for the production were "trunk show" and "found objects". The first designs for the Kit Kat girls consisted of dresses repaired with materials from others. Original slip dresses were ripped and repaired with the same lace, fringe, and beads.
